Below are some basic example Actions that you can download and use in digital photo utilities. Instructions for use:
Do you have a favorite action that you have designed? We would love to hear about it. Right click on the action to save it to a .dpua file (DPU Action file) and send it to us with a description of what it does, how to use it and why you like it. We may include it on this page. You can download ALL the example Actions in a single zip file here.
Query Rotate When you drag and drop some images on this Action, it will present each one in all four possible orientations. You simply click on the one that looks correct and your image will be rotated without loss. Download: QueryRotate.zip
Auto Rotate This Action works with images from cameras with orientation sensors (such as the Canon 10D, Digital ELPH S200, S230, S330, S400, PowerShot G3, G4, S45, S50, A300, Kodak 14n, Casio QV-5700. If you know of others, please let us know). After you download images from your flash media, simply drag and drop the images on this action and they will be rotated (using the Rotator) without loss according to the information placed in the EXIF metadata by the in camera sensor. Download: AutoRotate.zip
Thumbnail This Action makes a copy of each image and resizes it to be a maximum of 100 pixels (configurable value) on its longest side. The image is saved under the original name plus "-thumb". Download: Thumbnail.zip - See
Example
Overlay Date and Time This Action makes a copy of each image and overlays the EXIF metadata date and time onto the lower right side of the image. The image is saved under the original name plus "-date". Download:
OverlayDateTime.zip - See Example
Overlay Date This Action makes a copy of each image and overlays the EXIF metadata date onto the lower right side of the image. The image is saved under the original name plus "-date". The Action is similar to Overlay Date and Time, but it uses the ability to format dates described in the "Formatting Dates and Times" section of the image metadata documentation to show the date only in the format MM/DD/YYYY (i.e. 04/06/2003)*. Download: OverlayDate.zip - See
Example *The actual format depends on your date/time preference as set in the Control Panel Regional and Language Settings.
Overlay Date2 This Action makes a copy of each image and overlays the EXIF metadata date onto the lower right side of the image. The image is saved under the original name plus "-date". The Action is similar to Overlay Date and Time, but it uses the ability to format dates described in the "Formatting Dates and Times" section of the image metadata documentation to show the date only in the format "DayOfWeek, Month DD YYYY" (i.e. Sunday, April 06 2003). Download: Overlay Date2.zip
- See Example
Proof This Action makes a copy of each image and overlays the watermark "Proof" as an angle over the image. It then adds the words "© Your Name Here, YYYY," where "YYYY" is the year the image was taken according to the metadata. The image is saved under the original name plus "-proof". This Action shows how to use the ability to format dates described in the "Formatting Dates and Times" section of the image metadata documentation as well as how to overlay text at an angle. Download: Proof.zip - See
Example
Adjust 1 Hour This Action uses the Time Adjuster to change all the EXIF metadata and file system dates associated with your images forward by one hour. This can be useful if you forgot to change the clock on your camera after a change to daylight savings time. The amount of time can be changed if your camera is off by something other than one hour. This can be very useful if you use multiple cameras and the clocks are not exactly synchronized. Also, this action can be useful for adjusting times if you forgot to change your camera's clock when you traveled to another time zone. Download: Adjust 1 Hour.zip
Framed Email This Action can be used to spice up your email. In addition to resizing and sending images, this Action adds a double matted frame to your image before sending it out. Download: Framed Email.zip
Organize by Year This Action copies your images to the "My Pictures\organized" directory and then puts images into a folder for each year. For example an image from 2003 will be placed in "My Pictures\organized\2003." After all the images have been moved, DPU will open an explorer window on "My Pictures\organized." Warning: This Action will move your images to a new location on your hard drive! Download: Organize by
Year.zip
Organize by Month This Action copies your images to the "My Pictures\organized" directory and then puts images into a folder for each year and month. For example an image from May of 2003 will be placed in "My Pictures\organized\2003\May." After all the images have been moved, DPU will open an explorer window on "My Pictures\organized." Warning: This Action will move your images to a new location on your hard drive! Download: Organize by
Month.zip
Organize by Session This Action is a great way to quickly and easily organize a directory full of images into individual folders of images that were taken near the same time. The Action copies your images into a folder for each session (or event or photo shoot). This Action uses the Session organizing feature of Saver. DPU sorts the images chronologically then begins with the first image and collects them together until it finds a gap greater than 2 hrs (a configurable threshold). The images in the group are considered a session and this screen is displayed to allow you to name the session (or combine the images with a previous session). This process is repeated until all images have been placed into a session folder. In the end, all your images will be organized in a separate folder for each session (or event or photo shoot). After all the images have been moved, DPU will open an explorer window on "My Pictures\organized." Warning: This Action will move your images to a new location on your hard drive! Organize by Session2 This Action copies your images to the "My Pictures\organized" directory and then puts images into a folder for each year, month and session (or event or [photo shoot). For example an image from May of 2003 will be placed in "My Pictures\organized\2003\May." In addition, this Action uses the Session organizing feature of Saver. In the end, all your images will be organized by year, month and in a separate folder for each session (or event or photo shoot). After all the images have been moved, DPU will open an explorer window on "My Pictures\organized." Warning: This Action will move your images to a new location on your hard drive! Copyright and Artist This Action sets the EXIF metadata Copyright and Artist fields to "Your Name Here." You will clearly want to set these values to something more appropriate such as your own name. To do that, after you load the Action, you must click on the Action to bring up the Action Editor. Then double click on the MetaDataEditor from the Tasks list. You will see that Artist and CopyrightHolder are set to Fixed Value (meaning they are constant). Do nothing to these settings, simply click OK and you will be prompted for the constant values for Artist and CopyrightHolder. Enter the desired value (such as your name). Click OK to close the prompt then click OK again to close the Action Editor. Images run through this action will now be automatically and silently tagged with the values you entered. Artist.zip
Title and Comment This Action prompts you for values for the EXIF metadata Title and Comment fields. Download: Title and
Comment.zip
Edit Metadata This Action combines the two previous Actions ("Copyright and Artist" and "Title and Comment") together into a single Action. It will silently set the Copyright and Artist field for each image and it will prompt for the Title and Comment fields. Before running this Action, you should follow the procedure described in the "Copyright and Artist" Action to set the constant values for the CopyrightHolder and Artist field. Download: Edit Metadata.zip
