The digital photo utilities main window is relatively small and unobtrusive. It shows a set of Actions, each represented by an icon. This is called the Action Bar. When you stop your mouse (don't click, just pause) over any of the Action buttons (icons) a description of the Action will appear.
These Actions represent a set of tasks that will be carried out on any image files dragged and dropped on these buttons. Image files can be dragged from the Windows Explorer or other applications and dropped on the Action Bar in order to carry out a task. For example, the action shown above will take any image dropped on it, resize it if necessary to be certain it is less than 640 x 480 pixels and attach it to an email. If you drag a JPEG file onto this action from your desktop, an explorer window, or another application that support drag and drop files, a copy of the image will be resized and attached to an email. To try out digital photo utilities follow these steps:
Sometimes when you select images in the Windows Explorer or other application, the DPU window will become hidden. This can make it difficult to drag and drop images. For this reason, DPU includes a "float" feature. Clicking on this checkbox will make the DPU window conveniently shrink to smaller size and float over other windows.
This allows you to select your images and then easily drag them to DPU. As you drag the images over DPU, it will temporarily expand itself to normal size so that you can start your action by dropping your image(s) onto one of the actions. Terminology:
