WebGenerator

WebGenerator can help you to create web galleries to share your pictures with friends and colleagues.  WebGenerator is a web page generator that automatically generates an HTML web gallery for your images.  An Action including WebGenerator typically will resize images using the Resizer to a "web friendly" size (perhaps 640 x 480) and add a copyright water mark using Caption.  Then WebGenerator takes over to generate a set of web pages that can be viewed in any web browser.  The web gallery can come in a variety of styles, include thumbnails images for easy navigation and web pages for each individual image.  It works quickly and easily with a simple drag and drop interface.  It creates a gallery home page and one or more web pages for each image.  Some styles feature more advanced features like the ability to create a slide show of all your images.

WebGenerator creates a directory that contains HTML files suitable to be viewed with any web browser locally, burned to a CD-ROM or placed on a web server on the internet where others can view it.

Example Web Styles

In general, web galleries include a main page that allows you to directly jump to any image in the gallery as well as at least one page per image to show the full sized picture.  The following are example web sites that were generated by dragging and dropping a folder of images on a WebGen Action in DPU.

Note: Clicking on any of the example web styles will lead you away from this site.  You will need to press the back button in your browser to return to this page.

Floating Pictures - This web uses the Framer to make your images look like photo prints that float above the page.

bullet

Web of Frames - An HTML frames based web that can displays yours images in pictures frames.  This version is set up for large screens, of course the image size can be easily changed.

bullet

Dark Gallery - A very basic web gallery

bullet

Copyright Web - Each image has a copyright notice overlaid on it.  The information was retrieved from the image EXIF data.

bullet

Captioned Frame Web - In this web, each image is framed and has the image date (from EXIF) and some text overlaid on the frame matte.

Advanced users can modify these or even create their own styles.  See the section on How it Works for more information and the tutorial section for a step by step description.

Using WebGen

The steps involved in creating a web gallery are as follows:

  1. Preparation: Choose the photos you would like to include in your web gallery and optionally add meta-data

  2. Run WebGen: Drag and drop on an action including WebGen

  3. Publish: Copy the web gallery to a web server, CD-ROM or view locally.  Depending on your ISP, you may already have space allocated for a website.
