Installing PhotoFramer

System Requirements

PhotoFramer uses Microsoft's .NET Framework.  Microsoft's .NET Framework must be installed on your computer for PhotoFramer to work properly.  If you are installing from CD and do not have the Microsoft .NET Framework, it will be installed for you.

To install PhotoFramer, you must have one of the following operating systems with Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.01 or later installed on your computer:

bulletMicrosoft® Windows® 98
bulletMicrosoft Windows 98 Second Edition
bulletMicrosoft Windows Millennium Edition (Windows Me)
bulletMicrosoft Windows NT® 4 (Workstation or Server) with Service Pack 6a
bullet

Microsoft Windows 2000 (Professional, Server, or Advanced Server) with the latest Windows Service Pack and critical updates available from the Microsoft Security Web site:

            http://msdn.microsoft.com/isapi/gomscom.asp?target=/security

bulletMicrosoft Windows XP (Home or Professional)
bulletMicrosoft Windows .NET Server family

Minimum hardware requirements are a Pentium 90* MHz with 32 MB**, however we strongly recommend at least a Pentium 133* with 96MB** of memory.  A display size of 800x600 or greater is required.

* Or the minimum CPU required to run the operating system, whichever is higher.

** Or the minimum RAM required to run the operating system, whichever is higher.

PhotoFramer requires an 800x600 pixel screen with at least 256 colors.  For best results you should use a video card and monitor that can display the True Color (24-bit color) setting.

The .NET Framework is a relatively new component of Windows created by Microsoft as a tool for programmers to write programs like PhotoFramer.  PhotoFramer requires these libraries to run, so the .NET Framework must be installed on your machine in order for PhotoFramer to operate properly.  In the future you will find more and more applications that use .NET, so installing it now will mean you will be ready for these other programs as well.  You can learn more about it from this web page:

http://msdn.microsoft.com/netframework/productinfo/overview/default.asp

and from the Microsoft .NET home page:

http://www.microsoft.com/net/

New versions of Windows will include the .NET Framework, and so no extra downloads will be required.

Aside from installing it on your computer to enable these new applications, there is very little for you to do it should not affect the operation of your computer.

Installing PhotoFramer from CD

  1. Before you install PhotoFramer, close any other open applications or programs running on your Windows PC.
  2. Insert the PhotoFramer disk in your CD-ROM drive.  After a short pause the installation program will start automatically.  (If for any reason it does not start, you may double click the CD-ROM icon.  When the window appears to show the contents of the CD-ROM, double click on the setup.exe icon.)
  3. A window will appear confirming that you want to install PhotoFramer.  Click OK to continue with the installation.
  4. A window will appear while the installer confirms that you have all the necessary components for the installation.  Depending on the speed of your machine and what components need to be installed, this can take several minutes.  In particular, if it the Microsoft .NET Framework is not installed, it can take a few minutes for this to install.
  5. Proceed to the General Installation Instructions.

Installing PhotoFramer from download

  1. Find a web site to download the PhotoFramer.zip file.  You may do so from http://www.pixlabs.com or several other popular download sites.

  3. The download should proceed and, once complete, the file should be unzipped and setup.exe should run to start the installation process.
  4. If you do NOT have the Microsoft .NET framework installed on your machine, you will be directed to a website where you may download and install it.  Once it has been installed you may rerun setup.exe to install PhotoFramer.
