What is .NET anyway?The .NET Framework is a new component of Windows created by Microsoft. Our programs requires these libraries to run, so the .NET framework must be installed on your machine in order for them to operate properly. In the future you will find more and more applications that use .NET, so installing it now will mean you will be ready for these other programs as well. You can learn more about it from this article or from the Microsoft .NET home page. New versions of Windows will include the .NET Framework, and so no extra downloads will be required. Aside from installing it on your computer to enable these new applications, there is very little for you to do with .NET and it should not affect the operation of your computer. Back to Top

How can I tell if I have the Microsoft .NET Framework installed?Currently NO versions of Windows come with .NET installed, so if you haven't manually installed it, it probably isn't on your machine. Future versions of Windows will include .NET.

If you see .NET CLR (which refers to the .NET Common Language Runtime) in the above description of your web browser, then you have .NET installed. Some browsers, such as Netscape, don't properly report .NET. If you are using one of these browsers, it may be installed however you must follow this procedure to find out. From your Windows "Start" menu, choose "Control Panel" and then choose "Add or Remove Programs." A list of programs installed on your computer will appear. Look through it for an entry entitled "Microsoft .NET Framework." If that entry is there, you have the framework installed. If not, you must install it to run the Pixlabs applications. How do I install the .NET Framework?The .NET Framework is a 20MB download freely available from Microsoft. You can install the .NET Framework from Microsoft's Windows Update Page. Go to this page and find out what updates are available for your computer. The .NET Framework is usually listed as a "recommended update" so be sure to look beyond the "Critical Updates." If you find the .NET Framework, install it by following the instructions on that page. Its a good idea to visit this page to periodically update your Windows system anyway. If this fails you can download the .NET Framework directly here. Note: There are several updates to the .NET Framework 1.0 which include important fixes. Do You Support Microsoft .NET Framework v1.1?Yes, digital photo utilities version 1.3.3.1 and later will run in either .NET Framework 1.0 or .NET Framework 1.1. All versions of PhotoFramer support .NET Framework v1.1. It is perfectly OK to have both version 1.0 and 1.1 of .NET Framework installed on your machine at the same time. Back to Top |
